Rodger był jednym z pierwszych fotografów, któremu pozwolono wejść do obozu koncentracyjnego w Bergen-Belsen w kwietniu 1945 roku. Zdjęcia te bardzo mocno i bezpośrednio ukazywały niewyobrażalnie okrutną rzeczywistość obozów zagłady. Rodger wspominał później, jak po spędzeniu kilku godzin w obozie z przerażeniem zdał sobie sprawę, że spędził większość tego czasu szukając zadowalających kompozycji graficznych w stosach ciał leżących wśród drzew i budynków.
To traumatyczne doświadczenie doprowadziło Rodgera do wniosku, że nie chce i nie może dłużej pracować jako korespondent wojenny.1

In 1868 Sir Philip Woodehouse, Govenor of of the Cape Colony was authorised to recognise King Moshesh and his Basuto followers as British Subjects. Therby Basutoland became the first of the High Commission territories in South Africa to some under colonial rule. In the past Basutoland was the scene of much tribal fghting, centering around the mountain of Thaba Bosieu (Mountain of the Night).
